Reconstructive Surgery - Overview

Adipose tissue-derived stem and regenerative cells represent a potential new option in reconstructive surgery and may serve as an alternative to synthetic implants. Cytori’s investigational Cell-Enhanced Reconstruction procedure combines soft tissue that is transferred from one part of the body to another with a patient's own adipose tissue-derived stem and regenerative cells.

When applied to breast reconstruction following breast conservation surgery (partial mastectomy), the goal is to provide a safe, effective, and durable treatment for the side effects of cancer treatment, including disfigurement, breast asymmetry, tissue loss, pain, and other partial mastectomy complications. Studies will begin in Europe in 2008 for Cell-Enhanced Reconstruction following partial mastectomy.
