Reconstructive Surgery - Overview
Adipose tissue-derived stem and regenerative cells represent a new option in reconstructive surgery and serves as an alternative to synthetic implants. Cytori’s Cell-Enhanced Reconstruction procedure combines soft tissue that is transferred from one part of the body to another with a patient's own adipose tissue-derived stem and regenerative cells. Cytori expects to introduce the Celution™ System, which received its CE Mark in Europe, into the reconstructive surgery market in 2008.
The goal of Cell-Enhanced Reconstruction following partial mastectomy is to provide a safe, effective, and durable treatment for the side effects of cancer treatment, including disfigurement, breast asymmetry, tissue loss, pain, and other partial mastectomy complications. Post-marketing studies will begin in Europe in 2008 to seek specific claims and reimbursement for breast reconstruction following partial mastectomy.
